Department of Public Works Paves the Way for Riverfront Development (Nov. 5, 2009) – The Department of Public Works recently embarked on a six-week road work project in the French Quarter, Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods, one of many projects in the City’s quest to beautify local neighborhoods and encourage the safe, easy flow of traffic. From street repaving to new and wider sidewalks, the project is also intended to create pathways that reconnect New Orleans to its downriver waterfront.

City Upgrades Recovery Map on Web Site (Nov. 4, 2009) - In order to increase Web site functionality and provide more user-friendly technology, today, the City of New Orleans launched an upgraded Recovery Web site (www.cityofno.com/recovery) that includes multiple enhancements. The updated Web site allows users to search for City facility and roadway recovery projects on one map. The new map shows projects citywide, by City Council district, by Planning District, by neighborhood or located near a specific address.

City of New Orleans to Release Bid for New Orleans Police Department Special Operations Division (October 14, 2009)An Invitation to Bid for the New Orleans Police Department Special Operations Division, located at 1899 Tchoupitoulas St., was released on Friday, October 9, 2009.

City of New Orleans to Begin Demolition of 5th District Police Station (October 13, 2009)The City of New Orleans will host a press event to kick off the demolition of the 5th District Police Station, located at 3900 North Claiborne. (District C), at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. Katrina damage to the building was extensive, approximately 5 feet of brackish salt water drained over an extended period of time, corroding metal components and damaging electrical, mechanical and other fixtures. Since the cost of repairs exceeds 50% of replacement cost, the City intends to reconstruct the building.

City of New Orleans to Release Bid for Armstrong Park Phase 3 (October 6, 2009) - The City of New Orleans is pleased to announce an Invitation to Bid for Armstrong Park Phase 3 located at 901 N Rampart St. Armstrong Park sustained damage from both Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav, including damage to the park's storm sewer system, lagoon, pedestrian bridges, and the underground electrical system. Extensive flooding caused exterior fencing and landscaping damage.

The City of New Orleans is undertaking an unprecedented level of capital improvement, street and landscape enhancement projects to rebuild New Orleans to pre-storm conditions, returning it to its status as one of the nation's most vibrant and thriving communities. Already, $1.1 billion has been allocated toward active recovery projects.
